PALE HORSE FISHING CHARTERS

What is backwater fishing?

Backwater fishing is one of the most peaceful — and productive — ways to experience the waters around Naples, Bonita Springs, and Fort Myers. Instead of heading miles offshore, we stay closer to land, exploring calm, shallow areas like mangrove creeks, estuaries, and tidal flats.
It’s perfect for anyone who wants a relaxing day on the water with plenty of action. No rough seas, no long boat rides — just quiet waterways, beautiful scenery, and plenty of chances to hook into something special.
Whether you’re brand new to fishing or you’ve been casting for years, backwater trips offer something for everyone. These waters are full of life, and because we use lighter tackle and stealthy approaches, every bite feels like a battle.

This is our go-to trip for:

  • Families looking for a fun, low-stress outing
  • Beginners who want to learn the ropes
  • Experienced anglers who love chasing fish in skinny water

What to Expect to Catch in the Backwaters

Every trip is a little different — that’s the fun of it. Depending on the season, the tide, and a little bit of luck, we might target:

  • Snook – Fast, aggressive, and always a thrill. These Florida favorites love to ambush bait along mangrove shorelines and under docks.
  • Redfish – Strong and stubborn, redfish are often found tailing in shallow water or cruising oyster beds. They’re a backwater classic.
  • Spotted Sea Trout – Great for all skill levels, trout hit hard, fight well, and make great table fare! We often find them in the deeper holes and grassy flats.
  • Mangrove Snapper – Tasty and tenacious, these guys hang out around structure and put up a solid fight for their size.
  • Juvenile Tarpon – Small but mighty, these acrobatic fish love the creeks and canals. When they’re around, they steal the show.
  • Sheepshead – Known for their striped look and tricky bites, they’re often found near pilings and rocky edges.

We’ll always tailor the trip to what’s biting best that day, and what you’re excited to target. Whether you’re after non-stop action or looking to check a species off your list, we’ve got the local knowledge (and bait) to make it happen.
